Winners announced for NHS Chef 2024
NHS Chef 2024 took place at The Cookery School at The Grand Hotel in York this week, with seven finalist teams from around the country, competing on a range of challenges.
Huge congratulations to Alejandro Hernandez and Manuela Miccoli from Royal Surrey NHS Foundation Trust who have been crowned the winners of NHS Chef 2024!
Their winning menu consisted of a venison bao bun starter, served with blackberry BBQ sauce and a celeriac and apple slaw; gnocchi with hake, granola and cherry tomato sauce; lentil patty, roast potato, celeriac fondant and mushroom gravy; followed by a classic tiramisu.
Our finalists have created outstanding food consistently throughout the competition, demonstrating the knowledge and commitment needed to deliver tasty and healthy food for our patients, while also refining their skills and learning new ones.
All of the dishes were created on an NHS budget to restaurant standard, while reflecting the daily efforts of our NHS chefs to cater for diverse dietary needs.
In 2025, historic chef competition International Salon Culinaire, taking place on 17-19 March as part of Food, Drink & Hospitality Week, will include the HCA Chef Showcase. The showcase will challenge hospital and healthcare chefs to compete live to produce a three-course meal within a budget of £6 per head.
The stipulations for the challenge are:
- One course MUST be plant based
- The starter may be served hot or cold.
- The main course must be served hot and be nutritionally balanced.
- The pudding must be fruit-based and served either hot or cold.
